New York, NY -- It’s good news for manufacturers in the printer industry. According to the latest data gathered by IDC the market grew 1.6% from this same point in time last year.
For the third quarter of the 2011 fiscal year, MFP sales reigned supreme by accounting for two-thirds (66%, 20.8 million units) shipped. Of the MFPs, the color segment experienced the most year-on-year growth with 24.1%, which is up another 8.9% from the second quarter of this year. Color inkjets make up the majority of the sales, with HP, Canon, and Epson having the three highest market shares, respectively.
An IDC Program Manager for the Hardcopy peripherals, Phuong Hang believes that this shows that OEMs have recovered from the devastation they faced in March in Japan. Despite this growth for the third quarter, the fourth quarter is predicted to be relatively flat amid concerns over the global economy which are picking up.
