Lake Success, NY -- A new development has been sweeping the Internet and social media this week, the announcement of a forthcoming tiny printer by London-based design studio BERG, Ltd. Called the “Little Printer”, it is a Web-enabled printer which will enable owners to print out a variety of things like news, puzzles, and social updates from friends in the form of a mini-paper. Your feeds or content can be setup using either iPhones or Android smartphones.
So how does it work? According to sources, the case holds inside of it a small, inkless thermal printer for the printing, and it has a Bridge unit which provides the web connectivity. It is constructed from high-gloss injected molded plastic and has a brushed steel faceplate to frame each print job.
There are wide range of sources for the Little Printer to pull data from based on what you want. For instance, you could get puzzles, news, and other updates from the U.K-based Guardian. It also partners with Foursquare, Google, Arup, and Nike among others, PC Magazine noted from the BERG website. The printing begins whenever one touches a button on the printer. BERG recommends that one could print their “newspaper” out once in the mornings and once in the evenings.
While the printer itself will reside in people’s homes, according to BERG, the heavy duty work will be done off site in the BERG Cloud (another newly announced feature). The previously mentioned Bridge unit resides next to one’s router and handles the printer’s connection to the Internet.
The units will be available in beta form in 2012. No pricing was found at the time of this writing.
