New York, NY -- Reviewed in 2009 by PC Magazine, the MFC-8480DN by Brother is geared towards the small business or home office user. It offers print speeds up to 32ppm and the convenience of multiple functions (print, scan, copy, fax). The MFC-8480DN comes standard with a 50-page ADF and the scanner can handle items up to 8.5” x 14” in size.
The machine itself is about average size, though potentially too big for one’s personal desk at 18.7” x 20.9” by 17.7” (H x W x D). Unfortunately, it lacks Wi-Fi connectivity, though if you absolutely need that feature, check out the Brother MFC-8890DN. The PC Magazine reviewer notes there is no autoduplexer, but upon further examination of the Brother website by Castle Ink, it was included. The standard paper capacity is 300 sheets (250-sheet tray plus ADF), but can be expanded up to 550 pages with the purchase of an additional 250-sheet tray for $130 from Amazon.
It is both PC and Mac compatible and can be connected via USB cable (not included) or networked via its Ethernet port. In terms of ink, the MFC-8040DN utilizes a single toner cartridge that will yield 3,000 pages (TN620) for $75 and the high-yield cartridge will be good for 8,000 pages and runs $120 which should save you some money. The machine ships with the standard toner cartridge in the box. Overall, this is a very capable machine for small business or home office users at a reasonable price.
