New York, NY -- Reviewed in late 2009 by Computer Shopper, the MFC-9320cw from Brother is one of its latest releases targeting small or home-based businesses. The 4-in-1 (print, scan, copy, fax) machine has an average footprint, measuring 15.8” x 16.9” x 19.3” (H x W x D), but it weighs over 50lbs. The 9320cw is capable of printing at a maximum speed of 17 pages per minute for both color and monochrome jobs. It is both PC and Mac compatible, and can be connected to your machine through a USB cable, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi connectivity.
There is an input paper tray that can hold up to 250 sheets of plain paper (20lb. weight) as well as a manual feed slot that can take paper up to 43lbs. in weight rating. Unfortunately, the output tray can only hold up to 100 sheets of paper at a time. One bonus for the MFC-9320cw is the 35-page ADF on the top of the machine. For the display, the LCD, however, is very small (2” wide) and not very functional with reportedly bad resolution but the buttons are logically organized and labeled. The normal print quality is more than acceptable and holds its own in the speed category for similar types of machines.
This is definitely a model meant for business, as you can only connect your digital camera via a PictBridge/USB cable, which is not included or print photos from a USB drive. In terms of ink, the MFC-9320cw uses four toner cartridges; one black cartridge and three color cartridges. The starter cartridges that ship with the unit can print up to 1,000 pages, but the full regular color cartridges print 1,400 pages and the black cartridge will print 2,200 pages. Unfortunately, the ink is a bit expensive, $64.99 for the color cartridges and $74.99 for the black. The drum which will handle up to 15,000 pages costs $150 to replace. It is also worth noting that the cartridges, while color-coded, can be placed in the wrong slot. Overall, this is a solid printer for the home office or small business who need a variety of features and print moderately each month.
