New York, NY -- We originally told you about the release of five new Pixma models back in late July of this year. Today we present for you one of the lower end models in that group, the Pixma MP495.
The Pixma MP495 is an all-in-one device offering the convenience of three machines in one—a printer, scanner, and copier. In terms of looks, it has a sleek all black exterior which is part of Canon’s new design for the Pixma line of printers. It is not very large, measuring 6.0" x 17.8" x 13.2"(HxWxD) and weighs just over 12 lbs. The input tray can accommodate about 100 sheets at a time.
This model can be connected to your computer either via Wi-Fi (b, g, or n) or a USB 2.0 connection. It is capable of printing at a max of about 8.8ipm for monochrome jobs and 5.0ipm for color jobs. The Pixma MP495 will also print a 4x6” photo in roughly 41 seconds. Printing (with an app) is also possible from compatible smart mobile devices like iPhones and Androids as well as the iPod touch.
While it does not offer the convenience of duplex printing, it does come with the ability to print clips from HD movies shot with certain Canon digital cameras through “HD Movie Print”. The Pixma MP495 also comes with Auto Photo Fix and Auto Document Fix which determine the type of shot or document and then apply corrections to it for optimal output.
In terms of ink, the Pixma uses a two-ink tank system which uses a PG-220 (black) and a CL-221 (tri-color) to achieve its output. Both of the cartridges also have high-yield equivalents for more pages. Unfortunately, it’s the classic inexpensive printer dilemma—cheap printer, and expensive ink. Unfortunately, Canon does not seem to provide page yield information on their website, so users will have to look at a store for that detail
Overall, this printer is likely best suited for a home or student going off to college. The wireless connection offers added convenience in terms of where the printer is placed. Canon’s print quality is solid across all of their lines, so there is no reason to suspect it would be any different with this printer.
