Reviewed recently by PrinterComparison.com, the Workforce 1100 is one of Epson’s latest offerings in their wide format line of printers. Currently, Epson has a $50 rebate off of its base $199 price tag, making it affordable for homes, home offices, or small businesses for which it was intended. The control panel on this single-function printer is intuitive to use with only four buttons to press. Do not be dismayed by the lack of buttons, there are still plenty of adjustments one can make from inside the included software package.
Unfortunately, the only option for connectivity is USB 2.0, yet the unit does not ship with a USB cable. There is also a lack of any memory card slots or a PictBridge port for easy file printing without a computer. The Workforce 1100, as a wide format printer, is not small. It measures 16.4" x 31.4" x 24.3" (HxWxD) and weighs about 26lbs. It has a maximum print speed of 30ppm black and 17ppm color and can print at a maximum resolution of 5760 X 1440 dpi.
As you may expect from the price, it does not use Epson’s best print head or ink. That is not to say that the print head is junky, but the minimum droplet size is 3 picoliters as opposed to the 1.5 you will find in more expensive models. In the Workforce 1100, there are 5 cartridge bays for 4 colors: black (two black cartridges are required), plus cyan, magenta, and yellow. Epson recommends using the high-capacity options which are all Epson 68s. Overall, this is a very functional printer for the price and offers the ability to print larger photos or flyers if desired, a feature not often found at this price range.
