New York, NY -- Reviewed originally in 2009 by Computer Shopper, the X543dn is part of their award winning
X540 line which was recognized in April as an Editor’s Choice by Better Buys for Business. This 3-in-1 (print,
scan, copy) provides the convenience of multiple functions and the quality of a laser printer. It will print
at a maximum of 21ppm for both monochrome and color jobs and a maximum resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi.
In addition to the multiple functions this printer offers, it also provides the convenience of automatic
duplexing and a 50-sheet ADF. The X543dn’s main paper tray will accommodate various media from 5.5” x 8.5” up
to 8.5” x 14”. There is also a single-sheet slot that will print envelopes. Other paper handling features
include an optional 650-sheet capacity “DuoDrawer” for $199 that is made of a 550-sheet standard paper tray and
a 100-sheet multipurpose tray.
The X543dn can be connected to your PC or Mac via USB (not included) or Ethernet connection. For
additional money, you can purchase a network adapter for wireless connectivity. This may be a good option
consider it measures 18.23” x 17.32” x 21.14” (H x W x D) and weighs close to 60 lbs.
The print and image quality of this machine is good, but not exceptional, and it is very quick for any of
its functions. Like most lasers, don’t even think about getting high quality reproductions of photos. If you
need photos, you are better off with a inkjet or dye sublimation printer. Its monthly duty cycle is a bit
troubling being rated at 35,000 pages with the minimum recommended by Lexmark is anywhere from 500 to 1500
pages. Overall though, this should more than satisfy any small or home-based businesses with the convenience
of multiple devices in one unit.
