New York, NY -- Lexmark’s Interact S605 printer was originally launched back in September of 2009 along with three other printers all aimed at home, home office, or student users. This model was the top of the line for this series and for good reason. It is a 3-in-1 device with the ability to print, scan, and copy.
The Interact is capable of printing up to 33ppm for monochrome jobs and 30ppm for color jobs. It can also produce a nice-looking 4x6” photo in under 25 seconds. The S605 is proportioned about the same as the other printers in the series. With its trays extended it measures 10.46 x 20.24 x 14.09”(HxWxD) and weighs under 20lbs.
As the top printer in the line, the S605 has a good number of bells and whistles. For starters, it comes with a 4.3” LCD touch screen which allows you to not only preview photos and access standard printer functions, but also directly print thinks like directions and recipes from the web. It also can connect to your PC via Wi-Fi N, which offers a great range and transfer speed than Wi-Fi B or G (which this also offers). While it lacks an automatic document feeder, the S605 does come with automatic two-sided printing. It can hold up to 100 sheets at one time and has a one-touch EcoMode button that saves on energy.
In terms of ink, the Interact S605 has four-cartridge ink system with slots for black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. All of the ink cartridges that ship with the unit use Lexmark’s high definition Vizix ink. The Interact comes with a set of four standard size cartridges which will at least get you started, however if you know will be printing somewhat frequently, it may be advisable to buy a set of high-yield cartridges while at the store.
Overall, we’d have to say that this is a very solid effort on the part of Lexmark. The web-enabled touch screen is a particularly nice feature. Do keep in mind that since it is designed for home users, the monthly duty cycle is a little low, 200-770 pages. That should still get most home users through an average month.
