New York, NY -- Reviewed in late 2009 by PC Magazine, the Interpret is one of the new models (4-in-1, print, copy, scan, fax) in Lexmark’s new home office series of AIO printers. In addition to the fax capability--the only one in the series that does--it also is the only one with an ADF (35 pages max). It will print up to 33 pages per minute for black and white jobs and 30 pages per minute for color jobs with a maximum resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi.
It does not have a particularly large footprint, measuring 8.0” x 18.8” x 13.3” (H x W x D). You can print directly from your camera using the Interpret’s memory card slot bay which supports a variety of media (SD, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, and xD-PictureCard ) and a PictBridge port. The paper tray can hold a maximum of 100 sheets at a time. There are some tradeoffs though with other models in the series. You gain an ADF and a fax (musts for a home office), but you lose an LCD screen and 2-sided printing.
Unfortunately, it also lacks Ethernet connectivity. In terms of ink, the device utilizes 4 separateVizix ink tanks, black, cyan, magenta, and yellow (all 100As) and each has a high yield (XL) equivalent. The Interpret is both PC and Mac compatible and in addition to the built-in wireless connectivity, you can also connect it to your PC via USB cable.
For those of you who have bit the bullet and upgraded to Windows 7, you are in luck. There is a driver for this printer and the others in the series that are compatible. The Interpret’s closest competitor is theEpson Workforce 310 which has Ethernet connectivity and a slightly lower cost of printing but lacks the Wi-Fi connectivity and print quality. Overall, this is very nice and capable printer for a home or home office and the features are very good for this price point.
