New York, NY -- The Intuition S505, much like the name implies, is among the four newest well-designed printers by Lexmark with home users in mind. It is a 3-in-1 device with ability to print, scan, and copy. These devices were originally launched in early September 2009.
Offering print speeds of up to 33ppm and 30ppm for black and color respectively, the Impact delivers a max print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi. Do keepin mind that the printers in this series come with both input and output paper trays that extend out of the unit. With those trays extened, the Intuition measures 10.47 x 18.31 x 14.09” (H x W x D) and weighs about 20 lbs.
The Intuition S505 is a slight step up from its younger brother, the Impact S305 It trades in the simple 2-line monochrome LCD for a 2.4” color LCD screen. It has the convenience of either a wireless connection to your computer or USB 2.0. In addition the S505 offers two-sided printing as a standard (and automatic) feature. If you are green person or office, the machine also comes with a one-touch Eco Mode which uses less power than normal.
In terms of ink, the Inutuition S505 has four-cartridge ink system with slots for black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. All of the ink cartridges that ship with the unit use Lexmark’s high definition Vizix ink. The Intuition comes with a set of four standard size cartridges which will at least get you started, however if you know will be printing somewhat frequently, it may be advisable to buy a set of high-yield cartridges while at the store.
Overall, we’d have to say that this printer offers slightly more than your average printer at this price point. Certainly the automatic duplex printing is not necessarily standard for sub $150 printers. Since it is designed for home users, the monthly duty cycle is a little low, 200-770 pages. That should still get most home users through an average month.
