New York, NY -- Released almost a year ago now by Lexmark, the Platinum Pro905 has garnered many awards and recognition in that time. It currently stands as the top of the line office inkjet that Lexmark carries. The Platinum Pro905 is a 4-in-1 device offering users the convenience of a printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine all in one device.
The machine is definitely office-centric featuring two, 250-sheet capacity paper trays and a 50-page ADF. Lexmark also gives owners a guaranteed 5 year warranty right from the start so you can concentrate on your business and not on your printer. In addition users will appreciate that large, 4.3” touch screen LCD which provides access to a variety of web apps without needing a computer. It also offers the added convenience of being able to scan up to 8 business cards simultaneously and sync it with address book software (if using Windows).
The Platinum Pro is fairly compact considering the features it provides. It measures 12.10 x 18.31 x 15.42” (HxWxD) and weighs just over 25lbs. Because it can be connected to your PC, Mac, or Linux system via USB, Ethernet, or wirelessly, placement is definitely not an issue. It is capable of a maximum print speed of 33ppm in draft mode and 10.2ppm for laser quality text.
Probably one of the best selling points for this Lexmark device is the ink. With the new series of printers, Lexmark developed a revolutionary idea of the $5 cartridge. For $4.99, the 105XL cartridge will print 510 sheets, which works out to be about a penny per page. In addition to the black cartridge, there are also three individual, high-yield color ink cartridges which are rated for 600 pages apiece at cost $17.99 (about 3 cents per page). There are standard yield cartridges available, but their cost per page will be higher.
This printer is one of the nicest we have examined over the last year. The customer reviews on Lexmark’s site have been very positive as well. If your office is in the market for a new printer, this could be a good fit. Based on its features, it is probably too much printer for a household or student, unless the monthly print volume is high.
