Reviewed earlier this month by Computer Shopper, the Lexmark Prospect Pro205 Printer
is the least expensive model (4-in-1, print, copy, scan, and fax) in Lexmark's new professional series of AIO machines designed for business. The Prospect is capable of printing 33 pages per minute in black and white and 30 pages per minute for color jobs. It is a relatively small machine, only measuring 8" x 18.8"x 13.3" (H x W x D), without the trays extended. The Lexmark Prospect Pro205 Printer
is both PC and Mac compatible and offers a maximum print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi. It can be connected to your computer via a Wi-Fi connection, Ethernet, or a USB port.
While it lacks the 4.3" touch screen LCD of the Platinum and the Prestige, it does offer a 2.4" color LCD that isn't flashy, but acceptable for the functionality. The paper tray can hold a maximum of 100 sheets of plain paper, and there is a 35-page ADF on the top of the machine for scanning, copying, and faxing. The Prospect also comes with a built-in autoduplexer for 2-sided printing. Users can print directly from their SD, xD, MS, and MMC memory cards in addition to a PictBridge port. In terms of ink, the Prospect utilizes a 4-cartridge bay with black, cyan, magenta, and yellow (all 100As) and each has a high yield (XLA) equivalent.
Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the $4.99 black cartridge which can be used in Platinum or Prestige, so your ink costs are higher with this machine. However, it does offer the same 5-year warrantee, which is one of the most comprehensive you can find for printers. The Prospect also comes with Lexmark's 1-touch "Eco Mode" that will automatically adjust settings to save energy and paper. Overall, the Prospect is reasonably feature-rich at its price point and thus has a lot to offer home users or small businesses a great value.
