New York, NY -- Aptly named, the Prospect Pro from Lexmark is the entry-level device in their lineup of printers for SMBs which debuted almost a year ago. It comes fully-loaded for the price tag with its four devices in one machine: printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine.
Offering print speeds of up to 33ppm and 30ppm for black and color respectively, the Pro205 delivers a max print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi. This unit is about average size for a device with its features. It measures 8.03 x 18.78 x 14.09” (H x W x D) and weighs close to 18 lbs.
The Prospect Pro205 offers the convenience of a Wi-Fi connection, but can also be connected via a USB 2.0 cable. The input tray on this device can handle up to 100 pages at a time and also comes with a 35-page ADF. Two-sided (or duplex) printing comes standard with this model and is automatic. One nice additional feature is the ability to scan up to 8 business cards at a time and have the information transferred to your computer’s address book (Windows only).
In terms of ink, the Pro205 has four-cartridge ink system with slots for black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. All of the ink cartridges that ship with the unit are the high-yield ones so you will not have to necessarily stock up in ink right from the beginning. All of the cartridges use Lexmark’s high definition Vizix ink.
Overall, for the price we have not found many printers that offer what this printer does. However, the only reservation that we have with this printer is its light duty cycle (recommended 200 to 900 pages per month) and low input capacity (100 sheets). If you don’t have a high monthly printing volume, this is a good machine. On the other hand, if you need a higher monthly printing volume, you could try one of the Prospect Pro’s older siblings, the Prestige Pro901 or the Platinum Pro905.
