New York, NY -- Reviewed in 2009 by Computer Shopper, the X204n is built to please for small business owners or those that work from home. This 4-in-1, monochrome device (print, scan, copy, fax) will print a maximum of 24ppm. While it will not be mistaken for a desktop or inkjet printer, the X204 is smaller than others in its class measuring 15.8” x14.1” x 15.1” (H x W x D).
The main paper input tray can accommodate 250 sheets and there is a one-sheet-at-a-time manual feed tray located on the front of the machine. There is also a 30-page ADF which is located on the top of the machine as well making a total of 281 sheets. There are no expansion paper drawers available for this machine. The X204n also unfortunately does not come with an autoduplexer.
What is lacks in paper handling it makes up for somewhat in connectivity. Out of the box, it comes with standard USB connectivity (cable not included), but for additional money (prices nowhere to be found on Lexmark.com) you can buy a network adapter or a wireless adapter. It offers users a 2-line, 16 character LCD that serves the typical and basic functions of such devices.
With a maximum monthly duty cycle of 10,000 pages and a recommended duty cycle of 1,000 pages, it is a bit on the light side for an office. If you know you will regularly be printing more than the recommended amount, consider stepping up to the X264dn, also by Lexmark for an additional $100. The X264dn provides a built-in duplexer and a recommended duty cycle of 4,000 pages. Toner for your X204n will run you $89.99 for a return program cartridge with a yield of 2,500 pages. Overall, this is good machine for the price, but it does lack some key features that offices might need.
