New York, NY -- Reviewed originally by Computer Shopper, the Phaser 6128MFP by Xerox is durable printer ideally suited for small businesses or home offices. It is a 4-in-1 device (print, copy, scan, fax) with a maximum print speed of 16ppm for black and 12ppm, placing it among the slower models in its price range with similar functionality. It is definitely not a small machine, measuring 16.7” x 20” x 23” (H x W x D) and weighing 63.9lbs.
While it comes network ready out of the box with an Ethernet connection, businesses can purchase a Wi-Fi adapter for an additional $219 making it even more flexible. It loses some points for it’s paper handling coming only with a 250-sheet drawer and a slot for feeding sheets in one at a time. Also, the lack of any automatic duplexing standard or as an add-on may be a point of frustration for businesses as well. There is the option for manual duplexing at least. The 6128MFP redeems itself somewhat with its ability to scan directly to e-mail.
It also comes with a very robust maximum duty cycle of 40,000 pages per month. According to Xerox, the print cost per page for monochrome jobs is 3.2 cents and 16.4 cents per page for full color jobs at 5% coverage. The black cartridges cost $100 and each of the color cartridges (cyan, magenta, and yellow) cost $110. Another potential source of frustration is the 6128MFP’s internal memory. While 384MB may be a good start, it is not expandable or upgradeable. Overall, this machine is good but not great, and it will churning out the pages for your small business or home office.
