New York, NY -- Reviewed late last year by PrinterComparison.com, the 6140 is successor to the Phaser 6130 which debuted previously. Offering a maximum print resolution of 600 x 600 x 4 bits dpi, the 6140 is has a first page out speed of 13 seconds. Once the first page is through, it can print monochrome pages at a rate of 21 pages per minute and color pages at 19 pages per minute. It can be connected to your PC or Mac via USB cable or Ethernet connection, and further with an option for wireless connectivity (upgrade of $219).
The Phaser 6140 comes with 400 MHz processor and 256MB of memory (an additional 512MB can be purchased for $719). The printer also offers a plain but functional one line backlit screen. In terms of paper, the Phaser 6140 has a 150 sheet output tray and a 250 sheet input cassette with adjustable guides for a various paper sizes. There is also a one page manual feed slot on the front of the machine that supports a variety of paper sizes from 3” x 5” up to 8.5” x 14” with adjustable clips to ensure a smooth feed. For anybody or any company needing a greater paper capacity, an additional 250 sheet tray is available for additional $199.
The printer uses four toner cartridges, Xerox EAs, in black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. If a color cartridge runs out, the printer has the option of functioning in a “Run Black” mode. The print cartridges are easily accessible through the right side panel of the printer and each slot comes with a switch that toggles from locked to unlocked. It is also worth mentioning that this printer has PANTONE approved color simulations. While there is no built-in duplexer, one can be purchased for an additional $199. Overall, with its duty cycle of 40,000 pages per month, this is very nice printer for the price and could be used in either a home, home office, or small business environment.
