Reviewed earlier this month by PC World, the Xerox
Phaser 6140N Printer
is a good printer aimed at small to medium sized businesses who can not
invest in the expensive high-end models. It is not a speed demon, but offers
users acceptable speeds of up to 21 pages per minute for both black and
white and 19 pages per minute for color jobs. The Xerox
Phaser 6140N Printer
is smaller than most lasers, measuring 15.8" x 18.4" x 18" (H x W x D),
which makes it easier to place in your office.
The out-of-the-box paper tray can hold a maximum of 250 sheets, but it
is possible to purchase an additional stackable tray that will hold another
250 sheets for $199. It does not come with an automatic duplexer to save
paper, but one can be purchased for $149. There is a manual paper feed slot
that takes 1 page at a time. The C734dn has a 2-line monochrome LCD screen
located on the front of the machine.
It is both PC and Mac compatible and even offers a PictBridge/USB port
on the front of the machine as well as Ethernet connectivity for networking
it. The Phaser also has a wireless network adapter to make it even more
flexible.
In terms of ink, this device takes 4 separate toner cartridges: black
(106R01480), cyan (106R01477), magenta (106R01478), and yellow (106R01479).
The machine comes with starter-sized toner for each, which will last about
1,000 pages and replacing it is fairly inexpensive; all the replacement
cartridges cost $90 with the black yielding 2,600 pages the three color
cartridges yielding 2000 pages. Overall, the Phaser 6140/N is a good printer
for those offices on a budget and offers reasonable features for lasers
at this price point.
