Lake Success, NY -- Though it was originally released back in October 2011, one of Canon’s new PIXMA printers made news again last week at CES in Las Vegas. There, they debuted a music video featuring the printer along with recording artist Herbie Hancock.
The original announcement is dated October 26, 2011 and it details some of the new enhancements of this new, PIXMA PRO-1 printer. This is a unit which is designed for performance with graphic design and photography professionals. For starters, it is equipped with a newly redesigned ink system which incorporates 12 different inks: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Red, Photo Cyan, Photo Magenta, Photo Black, Matte Black, Gray, Dark Gray, Light Gray and Chroma Optimizer. Along with the new inks, the PRO-1 also includes a new FINE Print Head for better performance than ever before.
With the inks, the Chroma Optimizer works in concert to improve the density of the blacks, as well as eliminate bumps that occur sometimes with irregular ink droplets on the paper. The end result is a smoother finish that is truer to what the artist intended. Another new feature that relates to the inks is the new, tubular delivery system that splits up the inks onto two sides of the printer. This improves the speed at which output can be produced, even in wide format, with a 13x19” print coming out in just over 4 minutes. The ink tanks themselves are larger as well capable of holding 2.5 more ink than previous models.
The paper path has been altered as well. This new model has a dual paper path on the top rear of the printer which can handle either glossy or semi-gloss media and on the back of the printer is a manual sheet feed for fine art media. This system helps eliminate misfeeds and ensure that each photo printed meets the high demand of the professionals printing them.
