Tokyo, Japan -- A settlement has finally been reached in a battle Canon was facing in Tokyo over its claims that five companies were selling non-genuine ink cartridges for Canon printers. Further, the selling of these cartridges infringed upon Canon’s patent on LED-equipped cartridges. The companies in question upon recommendation of the Tokyo District Court have agreed to cease the import, sale, delivery, or display of these products. That resolution then prompted Canon to agree to a settlement.
Canon felt that based on the technological difficulties they overcame in development of these products that passing something else off as the real thing was grossly inappropriate. The intellectual property rights that Canon has built up over the years are considered by them to be of vital importance. Canon further said that it “holds the intellectual property rights of other companies in the highest esteem and expects reciprocity from other companies.”
