How Do I Choose the Right Paper for My Inkjet Printer?
Date: June 11, 2010
New York, NY -- In a blog post from the site DataBazaar.com, Sean Doherty discusses how to choose the right paper for your inkjet printer. Inkjet paper is manufactured to absorb the ink that is fired out of the nozzles of your printers. Ink which is not absorbed can linger on the print heads or in other areas of your printer causes problems for you down the line.
The first consideration, according to Doherty, is when going to buy paper is should you match the paper to the brand of paper you have? Despite the steep price of brand-name paper sometimes, this may be the best choice, but not always. This writer recently bought an HP printer and when buying additional paper found that HP’s multipurpose paper was in fact cheaper than the Office Max equivalent ( $7.79 per ream, go figure). If you own an HP printer, you can bet that the print quality was tested on HP paper.
Another consideration is the weight of the paper you buy. Standard printer paper is 20-24lb. paper. Depending on the intended use of the output, you may need to use heavier paper. Before trying heavier paper with your printer, check it’s specifications to see what weight(s) are compatible. If it is too heavy, it may not go through your printer smoothly.
