New York, NY -- Invariably, any printer you buy is going to have its fair share of errors. What differs then are what the errors are and how to fix them. For this column, we are going to look at some common errors encountered when using Dell printers.
Paper jams – While this is certainly a common error, the procedures for fixing them can differ for each brand of printer. No matter what, you should always turn off your printer before attempting to fix any jam, lest you damage the equipment and yourself (remember, it’s plugged in). With regards to Dell printers, the best place to check is the rollers. Look and see if they are tight enough and if not, adjust accordingly.
Failure to print a document – The first thing to check is whether the job is still in your printer queue. You can do this by opening up the printer icon from your task bar (lower right hand corner of your screen), and seeing if the job is still there. If it is, you can then check your cartridge to see if there is any dried ink. If so you can remove it with a slightly moistened cotton swab. Another printing failure error may be caused with the ink level in your cartridges. If you refill them, make sure you do so as soon as you get the low error message. This should keep from damaging the cartridge and your printer.
