Palo Alto, CA -- We first reported the story about HP’s Laserjet issues on December 1. According to a press release on their corporate site, HP has now released a firmware update to address these issues.
The potential problem was first reported by HP on November 29th. Since the news broke, HP maintains that they have received no reports from customers of any unauthorized access. The following statement was issued by HP on December 23, 2011:
“HP has built a firmware update to mitigate this issue and is communicating this proactively to customers and partners. No customer has reported unauthorized access to HP. HP reiterates its recommendation to follow best practices for securing devices by placing printers behind a firewall and, where possible, disabling remote firmware upload on exposed printers.”
