Industrial Printer Company undergoes a change

Sarah Tolkoff, of the Orange County Business Journal reports that Printronix, a company that sells industrial printers based in Irvine, has a new chief executive.

Kleist, the former chief executive was one of the people responsible for creating the first line matrix printer. A line matrix printer prints a line of text by layering lines of dots, similar to a dot matrix printer. This type of printer is an inexpensive printer that is usually used for box printing, or bar code printing.

Printronix is still primarily an industrial printer company, but they also manufacture parts, toner, and ink. The new chief executive will work with Kleist, and plans to continue with line matrix printers and also thermal printing.

Thermal printing is a method of printing that creates an image by passing thermal paper over heat, and usually is capable of black or black and red output; it used often for printing bar codes, just as line matrix printing is.
