When to Replace Your Printer

Date: February 22, 2010

New York, NY -- Printers like most other pieces of technology, do not last forever. As much as you may want to hold onto your machine, there will be some signs when it’s time to lay it to rest.

With inkjet printers, as cheap as they are nowadays, it may be easier to let go. If you notice that your prints have ceased to come out as you expect them to, that may be the final sign you need. After a while, some bits of material that are part of your printer’s rollers may even begin to break off. A potential result of that would be blotches of ink on your paper rather than smooth, sharp color.

Laser printers, while they have come down considerably in price, they still are generally more expensive than inkjets. A good time to replace these printers is when the fuser unit goes. That is the most expensive part of a laser printer and you may be able to find a whole new laser for less money.
