Konica Minolta Printers Face Recall in the U.S.

Date: February 6, 2012

New York, NY -- According to reports, HP is no longer the only manufacturer of a printer that has the alleged potential to catch on fire. Last week it was announced that Konica Minolta printers are being recalled in the United States. The difference between the two situations is that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has warned users to definitely stop using the printers immediately, legitimizing the danger.

The CPSC and Konica Minolta issued a press release which warns owners of Magicolor 3730DN and 4750DN and the Bizhub C35 and C35P that the printers have the potential to “‘short circuit and overheat during use, posing a fire hazard.’” To this point, there have been two reported cases of printers overheating, however no injuries have been reported.

There are an estimated 8,430 units which were sold between June 2010 and March 2011 which are under recall. Owners of the Magicolor printers are encouraged to contact Konica Minolta to arrange for a replacement unit, free of charge. For owners of Bizhub models, an authorized technician will come to each location and repair and replace the faulty part.
