Lantronix to Launch xPrint Server for iPads and iOS Devices
Date: December 16, 2011
Irvine, CA -- According to a press release on their corporate site, Lantronix is getting ready to launch a new device to enable easy and hassle-free wireless printing from iPads and other iOS-powered devices. The device is called xPrintServer. It’s roughly the same size as an iPhone and it will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 9, 2012.
How does it work? For starters, it leverages the native iOS print menu and potential users will be pleased to know that it “requires equires no additional applications, software downloads, or printer driver installations.” The xPrintServer will automatically detect the potential printers to connect to. Lantronix says users only need to open the box, plug the device anywhere into the network, and then you’re ready to print sans wires from any device which is running iOS 4.2 or later to almost any printer connected to the same network.
With over 73 million iPad users worldwide as well as an estimated 900 million more to be in circulation by 2015, it was clear to Lantronix that something needed to be done. The device was created with business personnel and offices in mind to increase the productivity of iPad and iPhone users in these settings.
Lantronix reports that their xPrinterServer will work with “thousands of printer models from leading printer families including HP, Brother, Epson, Canon, Dell, Lexmark, and Xerox.” To further ensure customers are getting a quality product, Lantronix commissioned independent, third-party testing by Quality Logic on top of their extensive in-house testing. Lantronix will update their site as more printers and models become available.
Interested parties can pre-order the xPrintServer-Network Edition at a cost of $149.95 from store.lantronix.com. It is designed for both enterprises and consumers who used network-connected printers whether they are wired over Ethernet or wireless. If you don’t want to pre-order now, units will be available for immediate shipping during the first quarter of 2012 in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe from the Lantronix site as well as Amazon, New Egg, Buy.com, and MacMall.
