Lexmark CEO Speaks About the Future Of Lexmark and Printing

Lexington, KY –- Yesterday the website AllThingsD published the results of an interview from Lexmark CEO Paul Rooke. Mr. Rooke spoke of Lexmark itself as well as the future of the printing industry as a whole.
Despite the massive difference in revenue between Lexmark ($4.2 billion) and HP ($26 billion), Rooke still feels comfortable about where Lexmark is positioned. HP offers many more things in addition to printing while Rooke said that Lexmark is a company that delivers solutions more than hardware. For instance, he pointed to the acquisition of Pallas Athenas by Lexmark as an example of this.
When asked by the reported about printing, Rooke pointed to the information, rather than the medium as being the key. Lexmark feels that for both themselves and for the industry as a whole, providing a means to capture and organize the information and data are where the opportunities are for growth.
As we have talked about in this space a lot, including a great deal about Lexmark, managed print services (MPS) are really a key to success as well. MPS solutions can help organizations and businesses to not only streamline printing, but all document workflow and more. All the major vendors offer MPS in some form or another, but Lexmark, Xerox, and HP tend to be considered in the top tier of providers.
According to Rooke, in the year 2012, “Lexmark will ‘enhance’ it’s capabilities, noting that ‘some people think we’re moving away from printing, and that’s not it at all’”. Lexmark will seek to fill in any perceived gaps in their offerings to make sure customers have the most complete solutions possible.
