Lexington, KY -- RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags are gaining more and more popularity in manufacturing and healthcare industries these days, or in other situations where you need to be able to track products (such as books in libraries) and documents. However, RFID is not a cheap technology to employ. Lexmark has developed a solution for their T654 monochrome laser printer owners, the RFID UHF Option. To be able to do this, you have to purchase the add-on ($2500) which is more than the printer costs originally ($1200-$1700). The device will produce up to 20 RFID radio tagged pages per minute. Keep in mind, however, that to have this capability, businesses must forego one of the T654’s paper trays. Also, it is not the same as a dedicated RFID tag printer and requires special paper.
