Marshalltown High School (MHS) Uses Grant to Buy 3-D Printer
According to the Times-Republican newspaper out of Marshalltown, IA, one of their area high schools has a new "toy" with which to play. Marshalltown High School (MHS) applied for and received a technology grant of $15,000 and then used it to purchase a 3-D printer. Last year, they teamed up with a big local company, Fisher/Emerson controls who gave the students access to their 3-D printer. The 3-D printer allows students at MHS to see projects in a realistic way, producing plastic models. Their teacher, Marna Hunicutt strongly believes in the importance of students gaining these 21st century skills. Once a project is designed, the model takes anywhere between one and three hours to print.
