More Details about HP's ePrinting

Date: June 9, 2010

New York, NY -- As the announcement made by HP on Monday continues to dominate printer headlines across the web, we wanted to bring you a few updates from the story we had originally posted Monday.

According to the news release on their corporate site, HP is offering some innovative services through this e-Print technology. Partnering with Google by using their “Cloud”, these devices are the first printers with the capability of communicating in this manner.

A new service which goes along with this is something HP is calling “Scheduled Delivery.” This service allows the consumer to print content feeds or news at the same time each day or week. As an example, HP says you can print a news feed from MSNBC each day to be ready at 7am so it can be grabbed as you walk out the door. Registration for these feeds and the scheduling of printing can both be done through HP’s ePrintCenter.

Yahoo! has also partnered with HP for part of this endeavor and together they will initiate a pilot program for marketers. These marketers will have the capability of placing customized messages, promotions, and more in select printings giving them a new way to reach out to clients.

All of the first four printers due out in the coming months are part of HP’s popular Photosmart line.

  • HP Photosmart Premium e-All-in-One – Due out in September of this year, it is expected to retail for $199 and will be available worldwide. It provides wireless access to the Web and comes with a 4.3” HP TouchSmart screen. Automatic duplexing is standard on this machine.
  • HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One – Due out in August of this year, it is expected to retail for $149 and will be available worldwide. Coming with a 3.5” HP TouchSmart screen, this printer’s strengths lie in its photo printing abilities. Readily available for printing from the Web are things like coupons, recipes, greeting cards.
  • HP Photosmart e-All-in-One – Due out later this month in North America, it will retail for $99. It comes with a 2.4” HP TouchSmart screen and uses individual ink tanks. The photo paper tray is auto-engaging and the printer has direct access to Snapfish.com.
  • HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One – Due out in September of this year, it is expected to retail for $299 and will be available worldwide. The device offers 4-in-1 flexibility with a printer, copier, scanner, and fax together. Offering a touchscreen interface, it can be connected wirelessly or via Ethernet.

Each of the four printers ships with HP’s new Photo Creation software, a free package for manipulation of images or a variety of photo-type projects. HP has also developed a new paper to go along with these printers, HP Everyday Photo Paper. It is less expensive than their other photo papers and has a glossy finish.

If you are a business owner, HP has something for you too. Later in 2010, HP plans to release print apps such as “Marketsplash by HP for a shortcut to print customized marketing materials such as brochures and flyers; Google Docs for easy document scanning to the web for printing at a later time; Box.net to scan, share, manage and access business content online; Portfolio.com and Reuters for the latest news articles” and many more.
