Now that the new year is upon us, it only seems fitting that new products are released. According to Macworld, Canon has announced the release of four new printers , three of which are AIO/MFPs and one is a dedicated photo printer.
The first of the printers is the Canon Pixma MX870. Retailing for about $200, it represents the top of the line for Canon’s inkjet multifunctions designed for the office. It uses a five-cartridge ink system including black, pigment black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. The MX870 also boasts a 150-sheet auto-sheet feeder, a 150-sheet cassette, and a 35-page ADF. The maximum color resolution is 9600 x 2400 dpi. In terms of print speed, Canon rates the color production of 6.1 ipm and the monochrome of 8.4 ipm. Other features of the MX870 include built-in Ethernet or Wi-Fi connectivity as well as a PictBridge port and a variety of memory card slots.
The second and third printers are almost identical. The Pixma MX350 ($150) and MX340 ($100) offer the same print speed, scanner size, and resolution. The notable difference then besides the price is that the MX350 comes with a 2.5” LCD. The MX350 also offers the ability for duplexing and Ethernet connectivity (in addition to Wi-Fi and USB) while the MX340 has only Wi-Fi and USB connectivity.
The final printer, the Canon Pixma iP2702 is a dedicated photo printer which retails for a mere $50. It uses a two-ink cartridge system with a black cartridge and color combination cartridge. In terms of print speed the iP2702 is rated at 4.8ipm for color prints and 7.0ipm for black prints. Unfortunately it only offers a USB connection, but has a maximum resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi.
