New York, NY -- In the never-ending price wars that plague the printing industry, there is a new competitor in town. According to Reuters, a company based out of San Diego, iProlog, has developed a new line of ink and toner cartridges called InkGard for inkjet and laser printers. They are priced considerably below what the current big name manufacturers—HP, Lexmark, Epson, Canon, Brother, Dell , etc.—are charging.
The success of their ink, in their belief, seems to stem largely from the software that comes with it to manage printer consumption. iProlog asserts that their ink and the software that manages it, can last up to four times longer than other “uncontrolled” ink. If you purchase any ink or toner, they will also give you a 1-year license to their software, which normally retails for $9.99. The savings per page is reputed to be an astounding 95%, based on their tests. Their software and ink or toner work universally with any printer or model. The ink, while primarily aimed at end-users, the InkGard website has also made the software and ink available to commercial clients as well.
The idea to begin producing this ink, according to iProlog, derived from the demand of the software which they already produced. Their founder and CEO, Thomas Villwock, Ph. D. believes that the combination of low cost cartridges and the software is an industry first and further that it provides their customers savings not possible previously.
The company believes this new product to have wide-ranging appeal, from the home-user all the way to business use and beyond. They further believe that this will allow the users to stretch their respective budgets and increase productivity. Making the ink cartridges last longer, iProlog hopes, will reduce the number of cartridges deposited in landfills each year.
