New York, NY -- A recent poll conducted by technology advice magazine PC Advisor has shown that inkjet printer owners were most dissatisfied (68%)with the amount of pages printed before needing a new cartridge.
That is a pretty overwhelming majority, obviously, but there is no indication of what types of cartridges the respondents were using or how often they printed. The print yields listed on cartridge boxes are estimates only, and if you read the fine print it does note that actual page yields will vary with use. Anecdotally, at Castle Ink we have personal experience in using high-capacity cartridges which in our experience have always lasted a sufficient time, even with consistent printing volume. The higher capacity cartridges also tend to offer a more reasonable cost per page. It is also important to note that page yields are not standardized, and can vary depending on brand.
The next highest response was in regards to having to print from a computer. Only 12% of the respondents selected this answer. People whether at home, work, or in between are continuing to adopt mobile devices like tablets and smart phones in increasing numbers and, as such, they have a desire to be able have most of the same functionality as when sitting in front of a PC. Many OEMs do provide the necessary means to print via app or other function (e-mailing your printer) such as HP, Epson, Lexmark, Kodak, Dell, Canon, and Brother. Irvine, CA-based Lantronix just announced the upcoming release of their xPrinterServer which makes it possible to easily print without installing anything, from iOS devices.
The three remaining responses had even smaller totals: sharpness of prints (10%); paper tray volume being small (8%), and finally print color saturation (2%). The poll had a total of 44 respondents, which may or may not be a representative sample. We would guess that the difference between the highest category, printer ink yields, and having to print from a computer might be smaller with more responses.
