Chambersburg, PA -- According to reports, Franklin County, Pennsylvania has made the switch to re-manufactured cartridges and have saved an incredible amount of money in doing so. During the months of July 2009 and December 2010, it is estimated that the county saved close to $170,000. It will also help them to save more money on the purchase of printing equipment.
In addition to the switch to non-OEM ink, the county is also simultaneously trying to move towards being paperless. This move itself is estimated to have saved the county an astounding 1.36 million printed pages over the same 18 months.
The idea was originally begun in order to cut the Franklin County budget 8% from where it was in 2009. They switched to an MPS solution and were able to network together 83 printers county-wide which also has helped to reduced printing costs. Another reason for the success is a reduction in the number of products pre-approved for purchase from suppliers. Of the 568 (down from over 25,000 in 2008), almost close to half are remanufactured cartridges. Remanufactured cartridges accounted for just over $41,000 in savings ($41,250 to be exact).
By making these moves, Franklin County joins a growing list of counties who have made the switch in an effort to combat these tough economic times.
