Pigment based versus dye based ink cartridges video

Wondering what's the difference between pigment and dye based ink cartridges? Watch this video from Castle Ink Cartridges.

Transcript

Dye based ink consist of colorant that is fully dissolved and suspended in a liquid carrier. Pigmented ink consists of a very fine powder of solid colorant particles suspended in a carrier fluid. Pigment-based inks have typically outperformed dye-based inks in terms of fade resistance, while the opposite was true in relation to color depth. While many manufacturers claim that theirs is the "best" ink for any number of reasons, the truth is that most ink produced today are equal or superior in quality, color depth and longevity, be they dye-based or pigment.

Please note that you should avoid using dye-based inks in printers designed for pigment-based inks and vice versa.
