Xerox's New Print Armor

Date: February 16, 2010

Rochester, NY -- According to the Rochester Business Journal, Xerox announced that is has successfully created armor to protect printer components. That does not mean, however, that now you are going to have open extra things or close things back up just to change a printer cartridge. The armor they are referring to is chemical armor, more specifically chemical armor for the photoreceptor.

The armor, according to Xerox, can effectively double the life of the photoreceptor, and thus extend the life of the printer cartridges. Photoreceptors basically are: “multilayer thin film devices that convert light into electrostatic images”. When they become scratched or worn over time, the quality of the print image is degraded which then warrants replacement. Ideally, Xerox is working on making the equipment “self-healing”, and extending the life of the printer even further.
