New York, NY -- When you are trying to print a Word doc and it just doesn’t seem to want to work like you want it to, the first device to get blamed is your printer. According to Dennis Reilly in a piece he wrote for CNet.com, don’t be too quick to jump to that conclusion.
One potential cure for problems printing from word is to reset the default template normal.dot (Word 2003) or normal.dotm (Word 2007). The instructions for doing so can be found on Microsoft’s support website in an article called “How to troubleshoot printing problems in Word 2007 or in Word 2003”. However, the likelihood of someone associating that article name with the problem at hand is probably small.
Another option is to reset Windows’ print settings. There is an interactive diagnostic step-by-step process as well. That potentially involves resetting the print spooler. Instructions for that can be found here.
The final solution is to go to your printer manufacturer’s website and re-install the printer drivers. There may an update you did not yet have.
