New York, NY -- We reported last month on a new partnership between Epson, Canon, Brother, Dell, HP and Lexmark who began a cartridge recycling initiative called “Project Homecoming”. The program has experienced a great amount of success, and now those same companies are bringing this eco-friendly program to Thailand in 2012.
The companies will place bins in various locations around the country and people will be able to drop off their old printer cartridges for recycling instead of throwing them out. Once collected, the cartridges are being shipped to Epson Mizube’s plant which is close to Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture. The used cartridges are taken apart properly and the usable parts will be reconfigured into things like “pens, plastic boxes, and flower pots”. Thus far, they have managed to recycle close to 5 million cartridges since the project began in 2008.
For each cartridge donated, the Project Homecoming partners are $0.039 cents to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). Donations thus far have reached $123,577 USD.
