Recycling Giant Will Now Work With Remanufacturers
Date: October 1, 2011
New York, NY –- According to the Recycler website, U.S. firm Waste Management will now collect used ink cartridges and sell them to remanufacturers as part of new initiative. Called “Recycle-2-Save”, this new program will allow customers to contact Waste Management for a box (the box itself is free), and includes a prepaid shipping label. The customer then only has to send the box back to Waste Management and in return will get a certificate of recycling.
Once Waste Management receives the cartridges, they will be “‘inspected, refurbished and reused if possible'” by the company or a remanufacturer, where as “'any broken or outdated cartridges are recycled'”. Boxes are available for all different sizes of cartridge and both inkjet and toner.”
In addition to the recycling, consumers will also be able to save on buying printer ink through Amazon.com’s Print Club. Cartridges can also be dropped off at Cartridge World locations who will then send them on to Waste Management. A spokesman for Waste Management said, “‘Keeping printer cartridges and other recyclable items out of the solid waste stream saves landfill space and controls customer costs; it’s better for your business and better for the environment.’”
