If We Don't All Recycle, The Effects Will Be Felt

Scholarship Applications > Recycling Essays

"Although there have been many signs and rewards for students who recycle, the fact still remains that most if not all tend to walk pass signs or just blatantly refuse to recycle. These misuse of water bottles and other materials will eventually affect the standard of life for many citizens in the long run, Hence that is why I have created some ways of ensuring that students at my school recycle and reuse there water bottles. I have established a well structured group at school that places signs all over school especially near all the garbage bins. The recycle bins tend to be bigger in size which unconsciously brings students to want to dispose there bottles and other materials there. Awards have been enacted such as students can receive community service for helping with he reduction and recycle effort of my group. Without a doubt the reduction of wasting reusable materials as been increasing over time since the group was created, this has been a major step towards the ultimate goal of eliminating the wasting of essential materials that can be put to good use. My efforts seem to be paying off, students have been realizing that recycle takes no effort at all, all they need to do is simple adhere, and there adherence can lead to benefits. "

"It is very important to recycle. People don’t understand how wasteful it is to just throw away paper, plastics, and glass. These are all thing that can be recycled very easily. All it takes is a quick trip to the supermarket or a recycling plant. Plastic is the most important to recycle if you throw away a lot of plastic you are killing our environment very quickly. Plastic doesn’t decompose so when you throw these thing away they stay there for ever. Plastic bottles and tin cans are the easiest to recycle and you even get money back for them. This will help keep the environment healthy. Paper is another easy thing to recycle because there is a paper recycling plant every where. It is very important to recycle because if we don’t we will slowly kill this earth and live our kids and grand kids with a destroyed world to live in."

"My recycling efforts include cutting out plastic bottles from my house and converting to aluminum and reusable water bottles. I have influenced my friends as well to the same. They too no longer drink from plastic water bottles, but from reusable bottles. While at school I also collect recyclables such as bottles and cans from students when they are done with them so the cans and bottles do not end up in the trash, but in the recycling bins at the school. I am also a member of the environmental club at my high school I am passionate about helping the environment. I make little differences such as walking whenever possible, rather than driving, using natural light, the sun, rather than wasting electricity with light bulbs, but the light bulbs I do own and use when necessary are energy saving light bulbs. I also recycle any papers, cardboard, and glass when I am done with them. If it is recyclable, I always put in the recycling rather than the trash. If I do not put something in the recycling, I reuse it by making something out of it, such as bracelets out of paper and candy wrappers or magazine pages. My final efforts of reducing, reusing, and recycling include reducing my electricity usage. Whenever I am done with a television, light, computer, or any other electrical device, I turn it off. I also limit my use of electricity and do not allow myself to use too much electricity at once. To go along with that, I unplug the devices so no added energy is wasted while plugged in. I believe I have made an impact on the positively on the environment and have influenced others along the way to impact the environment positively as well. I hope to further use my care for helping the environment and earth and spread my knowledge to others for them to do the same."

"I do not do much to reduce, reuse, and recycle. I'm not crazy about it. I just do what I can. I recycle whenever I possibly can. Yes, I will hold a plastic Coke bottle in my car for days if I don't have access to a recycling bin. I carpool whenever I can. I unfortunately drive my mother's SUV instead of something more fuel efficient, but I cut down on this by making sure that three or four people arrive at the same place in the same car instead of just one person per car. I also ride with friends if they can offer me a ride. I bring my water bottle everywhere with me. Paying for bottled water is ridiculous anyway. I also refuse plastic bags at the store, as usually my purse is large enough to carry what I need to carry. I'm not an eco-warrior, but I do what I can in my small part to try to cut down on my damage to the environment."

"Living in Washington has always influenced my environmental awareness, but these past few years, with environmentally hazardous occurrences such as the Gulf oil spill and the increasing advocacy worldwide to be green, I have been making a greater effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Within my own home I have set up small paper collection boxes, for items such as junk mail, scrap paper, magazines, and toilette paper rolls. What I used to just crumple up and throw in the trash I now collect to recycle instead. Every little small thing counts, because by the end of the week there is a considerable amount to recycle- which used to head for a landfill instead. Also paper plates and plastic water bottles are absent in my home. Instead regular ceramic plates are used to be hand-washed, and a refillable water bottle has taken the place of innumerous plastic ones. Likewise I am also being more conscious about conserving energy. While it is easy to just flick on a light switch, I have opted to use natural light whenever possible. I have reduced wasting energy by turning off lights when they are unneeded, television when it is not being watched, and by setting the thermostat at sixty-six instead of sixty-eight."
