"Going Green is a term that has become common. On the television, on the internet, in schools, practically everywhere going green is mentioned. Going green is important not only to me and you, but the entire world depends on it. Global warming is real and yes the Earth is finally being to be affected by all our wastes. It is everyone’s duty to help maintain this earth and when asked how I contribute to the cause the answer came naturally.
In my seventeen years of life going green hasn't necessarily been around like it is today. My junior year in high school I figured this Global Warming was serious and it was going to take my generation and many more to come to fix this world pandemic. Although many would disagree there ignorance is what caused this problem in the first place. And thanks to these kind of people, this problem continues to grow and grow. All this was going through my head, the hypocrisies, the long term effects that would impact my life and my children life and so forth. I knew I had to do something to not only help insure the life of my loved ones and future loved one but the life's of every human being. True this isn't a one man job, but with unity and optimism, anything is possible.
Given that my youth tends to work against me instead of for me why not gain more youth in my personal fight. It so happened that currently at my high school, Ironwood Ridge High School, Club Green (name explains it all) was just on that mission. I joined and have been an active member since. Club green was the first club I had ever joined. Sure all these other clubs had a purposes they felt were important but when your issues are save the earth from annihilation V. Bake sales and fundraiser, saving the earth just seemed like the right choice.
Upon joining Club Green My life did essentially change. I began to recycle period. Never did I recycle. Plastic, Paper, Everything I knew could be recycle I began to collect and recycle. Paper now became valuable. Using more recycled paper and not wasting paper was my contribution to this. Paper is going to be used no matter what, but using less of it is what's key. Planting a few tree in my yard, looking into electric cars and hybrid were also popping into my head. Which all except a brand new car did happen.
But I think the most valuable lesson that came from trying to go green, was the awareness and the understanding of it all. This maybe the one problem that the United States cannot blame on somebody else, or the entire world for that matter. We created this problem, and if this goes on for too long, Its my personal belief this will be the destruction of us. We human, the most intelligent species , the miracle organism if you will, will be so dumb and careless that the only destruction of our self is ourselves. In closing to all the ones who think Global Warming is fake, believe it. The problem can still be fixed, this problem is not going to go away. Fix the mistakes of millions and know that going green is solution to a more peaceful, prosperous and long life. So I say to you here is my declaration to a long , and for filling life, and to going green for its the key to our survival. Thank You"
"The 3 R's-reduce, reuse, and recycle. It seems like such an easy thing for people to do but yet most people do not do these things. I first became aware of how important recycling and reducing my carbon footprint is my first year of college. I began taking steps towards becoming more environmentally friendly. Instead of buying water bottles and throwing them away after each use I began to refill them. I've ultimately stopped using plastic water bottles entirely and have a reusable bottle that I fill up before leaving the house. I've started giving these water bottles as gifts to friends and family members to help them reduce their waste and reuse the bottle they have.At my part time job as a customer service supervisor at Wal-Mart, it is my responsibility to make sure the stock men who collect the carts are adequately hydrated in the summer months. They were buying cups each week and using them. I approached management with the idea to purchase them reusable bottles instead, which they agreed was a great idea. This idea has been passed on to most associates in the store where I work so that most have a reusable water bottle they take to work with them. I am also sure to recycle everything that is able to be recycled for trash pick up. When selecting a garbage company, recycling pick up became a major factor in my decision on which one to chose. I chose a company that picks up not only garbage but recyclables as well each and every week at my residence. I choose to run my dishwasher during the middle of the night, a time when most people do not use heavy amounts of water. I also hang my clothes on a clothes line during the summer months to reduce the amount of energy I spend using the dryer. These things are by no means all I could be doing to reduce, reuse, and recycle but I am on my way to becoming a more environmentally friendly person. The things I do to reduce, reuse, and recycle I pass on to friends and family members so we can all do our part in making the world a better place for not only ourselves but future generations as well.
"One of the newest trends in the twenty first century, besides online social networking and plastic surgery, is going green! But what exactly does that mean? Going green is the term environmentalists use for the effort to save the planet by remembering the three G’s: reduce, reuse, recycle. Many companies are helping contribute to this effort by creating environmentally friendly products, and reaching out to their customers. While some may still be unconvinced that global warming is occurring, our planet still needs to be treated with more care. That is why I reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Even as a young girl growing up in California, I remember recycling being a part of my everyday life. My brothers and I would collect our family’s and neighbors’ bottles and cans to recycle them. We would save up as many aluminum cans as possible until we had bags full of them, and we would take them to the local recycling facility. They would pay us a small sum for the collection of cans we would take in to recycle, and my brothers and I were excited every time. To us, five dollars each was a lot so even as a young child, I had a positive perspective about recycling. But now that I’ve grown up, I’ve realized that it isn’t about the money anymore. I moved to Florida in seventh grade and was shocked to find out that unless you purchase a recycling bin on your own, the city doesn’t provide your household with one. My family went right out and bought two recycling bins so that we could separate our trash from the items that could be recycled. As of a few months ago, the city started delivering blue recycling bins to the public, and I’ve noticed an increase in the number of people that recycle. At my school, each classroom has a trashcan and a recycling can. I remember to always recycle old papers I no longer need, and remind my classmates to do the same. It is very surprising the impact you can have just by getting others educated and involved, which is why the “Going Green” effort is such a growing trend.
Holding on to some of my old belongings and finding new ways to use them instead of just throwing them out, is another way I contribute to the environment. When I contemplate throwing out something I don’t need, I also consider how I could use the item in another way so that I won’t have to clog landfills with trash that can be put to better use. Every year, my family and I do a Spring Cleaning session where we sort out what items we no longer use. I always either donate my old clothes or toys to charity or find another way to use them. It feels good to donate something that you don’t need to someone else who will find better use for it. Like the proverb says, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Many people can find happiness out of something that you have lost interest in. The items I don’t donate to charity, I try to find alternative uses for. I also “reuse” every week during soccer. Instead of using different water bottles at practices and games, I pack one water bottle that is reusable and bring it everywhere. From practices and games, to the gym, to the beach, and even just in my car, I can bring my water bottle and never have to worry about wasting hundreds of bottles.
Having one water bottle also counts as “reducing” because I reduce the thousands of water bottles I could have used with just a few by buying a reusable bottle. To help the environment, I reduce the amount of waste that could be going into landfills. I also pay close attention to what I consume at home. By going to the grocery store and only purchasing what my family and I need not only saves a ton of money, but it saves the environment as well. The little things like turning off my lights when I’m not in my room, unplugging my appliances when they aren’t in use, and not letting the water run while I brush my teeth, all together have a big impact on saving the environment.
I realize that I, myself, can’t save the environment alone, but by doing everything I can to reduce, reuse, and recycle, and by educating others to do so, we can make a substantial impact on the environment. With everyone’s help together, the global effort to go green will be successful!"
"In the past few months I have been recycling all my papers in which teachers hand out to me. During school hours not many students recycle. I see papers everywhere and i see trash everywhere. It's true that i hate cleaning up after my classmates but i keep telling myself, if I leave it unattained then I'm just as bad as the person who left it there. Recycling old paper is required because schools are becoming more poor and we use recycled paper more and more. In an effort to reduce the amount of trash at schools I've been telling friends and others that they need to throw their trashes in the trash and to recycle old papers in which they do not need anymore. Outside of school I've been creating recycle bins for families and friends because the more we recycle now the better our future will be. I believe I have been making a difference in my community because I've changed the views of many that it is important to recycle so in the future we can reuse those materials rather than making new materials which will cost money and harm the environment."
"As a high school student, Reducing, reusing, and recycling can be difficult, especially with all the materials you are almost forced to use every day. But i always try to do what i can. Even if the ink from my pen bleeds through a page, I always use the back side of every sheet of notebook paper. I only use college ruled paper- you can fit more information on one sheet and avoid having to start a new one. I am a little unsure of exactly what paper products the school allows us to recycle, but nevertheless, I throw unnecessary paper into the green bins and plastic bottles into the spcified containers. The mention of trash may be a little contradictory to the recycling spirit, but when I do accumulate trash, I'll use something like a plastic grocery bag instead of using multiple trash bags. We have multiple trash cans in the house, but we don't keep bags in all of them. for the smaller cans, we will just empty the trash into a bag we use in a larger can. The efforts i make may be small, but if everyone took part in the small things, I feel that would have an incredible impact on decreasing the amount of materials we use and waste every day. "
