HP Photosmart 145 Printer Review
By Victor Lee

The HP Photosmart 145 is a budget priced portable photo printer. The Photosmart 145’s main strengths are indeed its small size and ease of use. The bread box sized printer can connect to a PC or MAC; but it can also work standalone via its slots for all major memory cards, PictBridge support for directly connecting your digital camera, and a 2.5 inch monochrome LCD screen. The screen, however, can’t preview photos from memory, so the only way to preview pictures is to print out an index sheet. The trade off for portability is also in the prints. The Photosmart 145 can only print borderless 4 x 6 color photos and while the max resolution is 4,800 x 1,200 dpi there is a distinct drop off in photo quality from comparable non portable units, making overall quality only fair. The pictures print also at a slow 3 minutes per 4 x 6 photo. The printer uses a single Tricolor HP 57 ink cartridge which can be switched with an HP 59 Gray Photo inkjet cartridge for black and white photos. Overall, the Photosmart 145 is a printer to consider for its price; however, for an extra $50 you should get the more full featured 245
