The HP Deskjet 3745 inkjet printer is a modest improvement over the previous 3740 and provides a better simple, budget printing solution. The Deskjet 3745 prints at an impressive 4,800 x 1,200 optimized dpi resolution. The text is of very high quality; in the case of photos and graphics it is still fair with color and shadow errors, and banding, although nothing less than what is expected of a printer in this price range. The printer uses two inkjet cartridges; an HP 27 Black Inkjet and an HP 28 Tri-Color Inkjet. The non-individual color ink cartridges might lead to wasted ink and more spending in the future since one has to throw the entire cartridge away after one color depletes. Printing speed has been improved with a max text and color printing rate of 14 pages per minute, not a speed demon by far but still an improvement. Overall, the DeskJet 3745 provides adequate service for the price, making this superior to the prior model and a home inkjet printer worth considering.
