The HP DeskJet 3847 is a budget minded photo printer geared towards anyone who enjoys shooting and printing digital photography. The PC and MAC compatible DeskJet 3847 offers good text, good graphics, and decent color photo prints of up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi resolution. While there are color errors and banding it is nothing for the casual user. Although its design is simple and easy to use, a PictBridge port or memory card slot would have been appreciated. The printing speeds are comparably fast, with a little over 18 pages per minute rate. The printer uses a 2 ink cartridge system with 4 colors (HP 27 Black Ink and HP 28 Tricolor Ink) but the black can be manually replaced with a photo ink cartridge (HP 58 Photo Inkjet) for six colors. One thing to note however, since they’re not individual cartridges they are less efficient and might cost more in the long run. Overall the DeskJet 3847 is a worthwhile option for causal users and students.
