The HP Photosmart 385 is the little photo printer with convenient portability in mind. The Photosmart 385’s main strengths are indeed its small size and ease of use. The lunch box sized printer can connect to a PC or MAC; but it can also work standalone via its slots for all major memory cards, PictBridge support for directly connecting your digital camera, and a vivid 2.5 inch, tilting, LCD screen with various one touch editing features. The 385 also has an optional battery for on the go printing. Of course you’re not expecting the highest quality of prints from a machine like this. The Photosmart 385 prints only borderless 4 x 6 color photos at 4,800 x 1,200 dpi with slight decline in quality relative to non portable photo printers, although it does it at a swift one and a half minute per 4 x 6 photo. The printer uses a single Tricolor HP 95 Vivera ink cartridge and accepts optional Gray Photo HP 100 Vivera ink cartridges for black and white printing. Overall, if you’re looking for a portable printer to take on trips and vacations the Photosmart 385 is a good something to consider.
