The HP Photosmart 425 is a minor improvement over the 422 that still provides an all-in-one solution for instant taking and printing of photos. In addition to the printer itself the Photosmart 425 comes with an improved HP Photosmart M417 5.2 mega pixel digital camera with a larger 1.8 inch color LCD screen, giving you a straight out of the box instant photo studio. The Photosmart 425 is PC and MAC compatible and works standalone via the camera when placed in the docking port on top. You can directly print and edit from the camera and the camera can also recharge when docked to the printer. There is also an optional battery for on the go printing. The printer itself also can connect to your TV for picture viewing. The prints are surprisingly on par with quality non portable photo printers, although its still only borderless 4 x 6 color photos at 4,800 x 1,200 dpi. It does have a swift one and a half minute per 4 x 6 photo rate. The printer uses a single Tricolor HP 95 Vivera ink cartridge and accepts optional Gray Photo HP 100 Vivera ink cartridges for black and white printing. The only real drawback here is still the lack of compatibility with any other camera but the included one for direct printing, a PictBridge port would have been nice. Compatibility aside, few get simpler or more portable than this.
