The HP Photosmart 8450 is a photo printer for the serious amateur and professional photographer. The Photosmart 8450 uses an 8 color Vivera ink system in printing professional quality photos of up to 8.5 x 11 at optimized 4,800 x 1,200 dpi. It is PC and MAC compatible but also allows for computer free printing with its multiple memory slots, direct PictBridge port for direct printing from your digital camera, and a color LCD screen. It also has an Ethernet port for network printing. The main drawback of the Photosmart 8450 that the 8 ink colors are actually combo ink cartridges (HP 97 Tri-color, HP 100 Grey Inkjet, and HP 99 Photo Inkjet) so, as with most HP consumer printers, after one color depletes the whole ink cartridge is thrown out, which might be costly in the long run. Aside from that issue, the Photosmart 8450 is a quality choice for serious photographers willing to spend.
