HP DeskJet 9650 Inkjet Printer

The HP DeskJet 9650 is a medium format inkjet printer for the home and small office. The, PC and MAC compatible, DeskJet 9650 prints of up to a 4,800 x 1,200 dpi resolution on a variety of papers up to 13 by 18 inches. The printing quality however isa bit mixed. Text is printed fairly well but has trouble on smaller more detailed fonts, while graphics and photos are very good with only some shadow errors. It has the option for an automatic duplexer for double sided printing and an Ethernet adaptor for network printing, although these would raise its already high price. In addition to these features a PictBridge port or a memory card slot would have been appreciated though. The printing speeds are pretty swift, with an average top speed of 18 pages per minute. The printer uses a 2 ink cartridge system with 4 colors (HP 56 Black Inkjet and HP 57 Tricolor Inkjet) but the black can be manually replaced with a photo ink (HP 58 Photo Inkjet or HP 59 Gray Photo Inkjet) for six colors. Since these are not individual cartridges they are less efficient and might cost more in the long run. Overall the DeskJet 9650 has too few standard features and too high of a price for it to be fully recommended, but performance wise it is still pretty good.
