Canon U.S.A. Demos New Workflow Solutions at Legal Conference
February 2, 2013
Earlier this week as part of the LegalTech 2013 conference in New York, Canon unveiled new technology as part of their ongoing efforts to meet the needs of law firms and corporate legal departments. This year?s revelations include items in mobile printing, cloud access, workflow management, and document scanning according to Canon. For our purposes, we will focus primarily on the printing solutions.
First up is Canon’s secure solutions for mobile and cloud access. No matter the size of an office, Canon believes they have a solution that will fit it. They offer a wide variety of mobile printing solutions to suit their needs including both peer to peer and cloud-based solutions. Canon makes it simple for users to print files right from places like the cloud-based Google Drive. Canon’s solutions can provide direct communication between MFPs and a variety of popular mobile devices and cloud applications which are embedded on the imageRUNNER ADVANCE system and mobile applications.
If a firm or office would like to have additional levels of control over printing and device usage, Canon also has server based mobile printing and scanning solutions. For instance, uniFLOW Mobile Printing can incorporate mobile device usage with a firm?s overall output management solution. This ensures that the firm can control which employees can print to which devices, require user authentication for secure printing, and provide insight into device costs.
Companies can also streamline their workflows with Canon?s innovative MFP-based software solutions to maximize efficiency and productivity. Their solutions easily integrate with any common document based process such as document imaging and eDiscovery which are used by the legal industry. They also have eCopy and ShareScan which make it possible for firms to easily create electronic documents and organize them inside a document management system. Canon also has a wide range of cost-recovery solutions which makes it easy for a firm, regardless of size, to track and bill any costs associated with their office devices and provide data which can inform the firm about what is being printed and where savings can be realized.
Canon U.S.A. Speaks About EPEATŪ
February 1, 2013
We reported yesterday on the efforts of many OEMs to obtain EPEAT® certification for their imaging products. Today, we look more in detail with a news release issued by one of those OEMs, Canon U.S.A.
The company announced earlier this week that eight of its imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs were awarded a Gold Rating (the highest possible) for the new Digital Imaging Equipment Category. Two other imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs also were awarded a Silver Rating. To briefly recap, EPEAT is the global registry for greener electronics. A variety of organizations, businesses, and individuals can use their registry to ensure they select products that conform to strict environmental standards and promote a healthy planet.
To obtain their place in the EPEAT registry, products must meet or exceed a minimum of 33 different environmental performance criteria. There are an additional 26 optional criteria which products can be tested against to achieve a higher rating. If a product is granted a Gold level rating, it means that they met every one of the required criteria as well as at least 75% of the optional ones. Further adding to the significance of this achievement is the fact that they were developed over a four-year period by a group of “hundreds of representatives from environmental, research, governmental, and manufacturing sectors.%rdquo;
EPEAT rates products on a lifecycle basis, and includes some of the following criteria: “absence of toxic substances, their use of recycled and recyclable materials, and their design for recycling, product longevity, energy efficiency, corporate performance and packaging”
According to Canon, the following items have received ratings from EPEAT:
Canon reports that, according to EPEAT, from 2006 onward those who have chosen to purchase EPEAT-registered electronics instead of products that don’t meet the standards, have aided in the elimination to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions equal to the annual impact of 11 million U.S. cars, preven 394,000 metric tons of hazardous waste, and reduce solid waste by as much as 167,000 metric tons which is equal to the annual waste production of about 86,000 U.S. households.
