Samsung Introduces New ProXpress Printers and MFPs
Last week, Samsung Electronics America, Inc., announced a total of four new printers and multifunctions in its ProXpress line of single and multifunction printers. (MFPs). The new units consist of the C2620DW, the C2670FW, the M4583FX, and the M4580FX. The new, robust devices are all aimed at SMBs, and can be used either as standalone units or networked for a whole office. Businesses are able to customize applications to meet their specific needs with XOA (eXtensible Open Architecture) and the M4583FX and M4580FX come with the new Samsung Smart User Interface (UI), which is powered by Android™, becoming the first MFPs to use the Android operating system.

M4583FX and M4580FX: “Powerful Performance and Intuitive Operability”
Both of these units are designed to keep up with whatever a business throws at them. They offer incredibly quick scanning and paper handling via a 1GHz dual core internal processor. Print speeds on the unit top out at 47 ppm and a Dual Scan Document Feeder (DSDF) makes it quick and easy to perform two-sided scanning up to 60 images per minute. The long-life drum which is included is rated for up to 100,000 pages and high-yield toner comes in yields up to 40,000 pages from a single cartridge, meaning less money and time is spent on keeping up with consumables.
Each of these units comes with a large and intuitive, 10.1” LCD touchscreen display which is powered by Android. With this achievement, the units are able to operate independent of any type of PC. The C2620DW and C2670FW feature a 4.1” LCD touchscreen display designed to be simple and intuitive for users. Samsung Partners with Perceptive Software
Earlier this week, Samsung announced a new strategic partnership with Perceptive Software, a stand–alone company owned by Lexmark, Inc. Under this new partnership, Samsung’s MFP customers are now able to securely access content via Perceptive’s enterprise content management software, Perceptive Content. Now those customers across several industries will be able to not only manage their document lifecycle, but also gain access from their mobile devices.

For their part, Samsung designed a connector which makes it possible for users to integrate Perceptive Content directly into their MFPs using Samsung’s eXtensible Open Architecture (XOA) platform. Samsung believes that this is an ideal solution for those in higher education, healthcare, and retail because users are able to place documents directly into workflows where other users can gain access to them via their mobile devices and PCs.

Samsung Releases New Line of Printers for SMBs and Home Offices
Yesterday, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced a new line of ProXpress mono laser printers and multi-function printers (MFPs) aimed at both SMBs and home office users. The new units are designed to “offer fast print speeds, high print quality and versatility and have been specifically designed for users who require low operating costs and high performance”. The new single-function printers are the M4020ND, M3820DW, M3320ND, and the new MFPs are the M4070FR, M3870FW, and M3370FD. Each comes with Samsung’s all-in-one integrated toner system, substantial eco features, and two-sided printing to make the units as cost- and energy-efficient as possible.

Each of the new models have print speeds that range from 35-42 ppm for letter-sized documents. Also, each comes with a Cortex™ A5 Processor and can be configured with as much as 256MB of internal memory. Each unit can automatically provide two-sided printing, and contains a multipurpose tray for heavier media (up to 220 gsm/58lbs.) The multipurpose tray can also help individuals and businesses print labels, cards, and envelopes, furthering the units’s efficiency.
For two of the multifunction models, the ProXpress M3870FW and M4070FR, users get a DADF (duplex automatic document feeder) which makes it easy to scan, copy, and fax two-sided originals. The former scans at speeds of up to 24ipm and the latter, 20opm.“High Quality and Easy-To-Use”

Buyers Lab Honors Samsung with “5 Star Ratings” for Printers
Earlier this week Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced that several of their print devices were awarded 5 star ratings for environmental performance by Buyers Lab LLC (BLI), well-respected independent tester of document imaging products. The devices recognized include the CLX-6260FW, CLX-6260FD, and CLP-680ND. Further, BLI names eight Samsung A3 and A4 MFPs and SyncThru Admin 6 device management software with “Pick” Awards for achieving an excellent rating on over six categories.
To test the environmental performance of the printers, BLI tests for the following: energy consumption and cost, toner/consumable yields, recovery time, runnability with recycled paper, noise emissions and environmentally friendly features. The Pick Awards are given to “hardware and software that measure up as the best in comprehensive evaluations, which assess a wide range of the most important features and performance factors for buyers”.

During the testing, Samsung’s three units, the CLX-6260FW, CLX-6260FD and CLP-680ND, received the highest possible score for performance in energy consumption. Pete Emory, BLI Lab Manager, remarked, “‘Samsung earned several 5 Star Ratings by showing impressive results in our extensive lab testing. Strengths included lower than average projected annual energy consumption rates, faster than average recovery times from sleep mode and automatic duplex to help reduce paper use. For the Pick Awards, Samsung’s CLX-9251NA stood out for its image quality, excellent administrative and feedback utilities and highly reliable engine. Buyers who care about image quality will be impressed, and we gave the SCX-8128NA top honors due to reliability, network connectivity, image quality and high toner yield tests. ’”
Samsung’s SyncThru Admin 6 was awarded the “Outstanding Device Management Solution” by BLI, scoring higher than other entries. The software allows network adminstrators to easily control and monitor local devices connected to any network PC, perform SLA (service-level agreement) reporting, and send error alerts via Twitter.

Samsung Reaches Big Environmental Milestone

Today Samsung was pleased to announce announce that 60 of its A3, A4, and MFP devices have been rated on EPEAT, the global registry for greener electronics. Of those companies with EPEAT-registered products, Samsung has the largest number which includes items from each of EPEAT categories. Since the creation in 2006, EPEAT ratings have proved invaluable to companies, governments, and consumers who are interested in purchasing greener products.

In order to be listed on the EPEAT registry, A3 and A4 printers and MFP devices must meet a variety of environmental performance criteria which were established by hundreds of representatives from the environmental, manufacturing, research, recycling, and government sectors. Beginning in the first part of 2008, the U.S. Federal Government has mandated that products up for bid must be EPEAT registered. With their broad spectrum of EPEAT products, Samsung is able to showcase their products to different agencies and win bids and contracts.
There are 10 main categories for product assessment as part of the EPEAT registry: reduction/elimination of environmentally sensitive material, materials selection, design for end of life, product, longevity/life cycle extension, energy conservation, end of life management, corporate performance, packaging, consumables and indoor air quality. In the case of the most recent assessment, an additional 59 subcategories were used.

Samsung Announces New Partnership
Monday, Samsung Electronics America Inc. announced a new partnership with LDI Color ToolBox, a leading provider of print, color graphics, and document management technology located in the United States. Under the agreement, LDI Color ToolBox will provide to those businesses in the enterprise space the opportunity to utilize Samsung’s award-winning integrated solutions.

Over the past few weeks, we have been excited to bring you news regarding Samsung and their reseller program, first with RJ Young and then a week later with Modern Office Methods in February 2013. In a related story, Canadian firm PrintFleet issued a press release Thursday in regards to a new partnership between themselves and Samsung. Tuesday Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced a new partnership with Cincinnati, OH-based Modern Office Methods (MOM for short) who serves as one of the foremost office equipment providers for Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Under the terms of this new deal, Modern Office Methods with become an authorized BTA dealer of Samsung’s award-winning printers and multifunction devices to their customers across the entire Midwest. This marks the second deal in as many weeks for Samsung who last week inked a deal with RJ Young in the Southeastern United States.

Samsung Announces New Line of Color MFPs

Samsung Electronics America, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. yesterday announced a new line of A4-size color MFPs. Aimed at small, medium, and large-sized offices alike, the new CLX-8640ND and CLX-8650ND feature dual-scan technology which can help businesses save time and resources. Samsung joins a small number of other vendors who offer the ability to scan both sides of an A4 sheet of paper at the same time.

With the native ability to scan both sides of a sheet of paper, these new units make it easier for businesses to scan even the biggest stacks of documents quickly and easily. Samsung says items can be handled up to 1.5 times faster than if it were single-sided. The time gained from this technology can be used for other tasks and continuing productivity. Both units contain a 1GHz dual core processor as well as Samsung’s groundbreaking anti-jam technology which keeps users printing rather than worrying about paper jams. The anti-jam technology works by using a roller specially designed to reduce the number of misfeeds and paper jams which can get in the way.
Both of these new units are designed to print jobs at exceptionally fast speeds. The CLX-8650ND is rated for up to 51ppm, and the CLX-8640ND for 40ppm. They also come with the same polymerized toner which Samsung introduced last summer with another set of A4 printers. The toner is engineered to use 35% less electricity while being manufactured, therefor reducing the amount of CO2 emissions. Samsung notes that the resulting smaller, more uniform particles are able to produce crisp lines, blended tones, and beautiful color.
The CLX-8650ND and CLX-8640ND are also included with the Samsung S.T.A.R. program which means that businesses are able to recycle both their cartridges and major usable components with Samsung at no cost. As an added convenience, both single and bulk returns are available.
Samsung’s two latest models both come with a large, 7” touch screen which provides users with access to all of the machines features and modes. Just like with smart phones, users can flick and scroll through the screens, making it easier than ever before to manage output. Users can also use the screen to create shortcuts for frequent tasks, improving efficiency.
They also are built to connect with business applications through the eXtended Open Architecture (XOA) platform. With these open standards, it is easier for third-party vendors to create embedded applications that augment MFP capabilities, therefore improving business processes.
The CLX-8640ND and CLX-8650ND will be available in January, 2013. The MSRP for the CLX-8640ND is $6,947.46 and the MSRP for the CLX-8650ND is $8,340.12.

Samsung Initiates New Marketing Campaign
Earlier this week, we wrote about the latest Samsung ProXpress printers and MFPs that Samsung launched. Yesterday Samsung followed up that announcement with the introduction of a new global marketing campaign designed to highlight these devices and to help businesses work smarter. The new, robust collection of MFPs released by Samsung, according to the release, includes the world’s first and only printer with the Android platform built-in right out of the box.
Ed Abrams, vice president of marketing at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division said, “‘Our Smartify campaign is designed to elevate Samsung?s brand awareness in B2B by bringing intelligence and leadership to the introduction of these innovative new printing solutions. Samsung notes that as the workplace evolves and workers shift to using their own mobile devices, there is an increased demand for printing solutions that support mobile management of documents. The campaign, which debuted September 10, is in seven different countries to start including the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Italy, China, and Brazil.
